Australia's wet summer and autumn continued in March. With rainfall averaging more than 133mm across the country it was the wettest March ever recorded.

March 2011 also takes its place in the top ten wettest ever months, in sixth place - not quite as rainy as February which was the fourth wettest month on record.

The rain made it a relatively cool month, and the average maximum temperature was the lowest on record for March, at a shade under 30 deg C.

The strong La Niña of the past few months is probably the culprit.Much of Australia tends to experience more precipitation during La Niña episodes but with that phenomenon now fading the coming winter should see fewer deluges.
